Louisville Kings FAQs

We typically hold tryouts for the upcoming season every July, with one make-up session in early August. Tryouts are open to all interested players. If a player wishes to join after tryouts and there’s an open roster spot, we’ll invite them to a team practice to evaluate fit.

Preferred experience: Travel club lacrosse

We aim to field two teams per age group. Some age groups are deeper than others, but our goal is to give as many kids as possible the chance to play.
-
Yes. Each age group typically has two teams — a Red Team and a White Team.
We encourage players not to focus on team color, but rather on personal growth and development as lacrosse players.Every athlete in the Kings program trains under experienced coaches committed to helping them improve — both for the Kings and their school programs.
Rosters change every year for various reasons. Some players move from Red to White for more playing time or leadership opportunities, while others move from White to Red after demonstrating hard work and improvement. Some players choose the White Team intentionally due to other sports, time commitments, or social factors.
Our two-team approach promotes competition, development, and access — giving all players the opportunity to improve and play competitive travel lacrosse right here in Louisville.
Ultimately, we provide the platform and structure — it’s up to each player to decide how much they want to invest in becoming a stronger athlete. -
Commitment varies by age group and season.
Fall season: Practices start in early October, twice a week for 7–8 weeks, ending with 2–3 tournaments. We schedule around local school and other sports whenever possible.
Winter: Kings practices pause; we encourage players to participate in local box lacrosse.
Spring/Summer: Practices resume in early March (1x/week), increasing to 2x/week in May and June. June includes three travel tournaments. Middle school teams wrap up by late June; high school teams continue through July.
-
Absolutely. We strongly support multi-sport athletes. Playing multiple sports builds overall athleticism, reduces burnout, and keeps sports fun — especially in middle school.
Many of our players also compete in football, soccer, basketball, cross-country, swimming, and golf.
The only sport that’s consistently challenging to balance with lacrosse is baseball due to its unpredictable and heavy game schedule. -
We publish our annual schedule each September, including all practices and tournaments, to help families plan ahead.
-
The fall season is more flexible and allows for conflicts. However, summer tournaments are a key focus — we expect 100% attendance at tournaments.
Players on our top-level teams attend at least 90% of practices; other team players attend 75% or more.
-
Travel varies by age group and team level. Younger teams typically stay regional, expanding their travel as they gain experience.
Older and more competitive teams travel farther to face top-level national competition.

Yes. We offer a multi-step recruiting support program for high school players.
Our staff includes a Recruiting Coordinator, former Division I, II, and III college coaches, and a parent/peer advisory team.
Players receive one-on-one guidance to build a personalized recruiting plan that aligns with their school schedule, club season, showcases, and prospect camps.
As an added benefit, program fees include premium access to SportsRecruits (IMCLA) — a platform that connects athletes directly with college coaches to support the recruiting process.
